Micah PeaVy will be a favorite if he achieves these goals for the pelicans

This is part two of my series where I will give goals for the entire schedule of New Orleans Pelicans prior to the 2025-26 season. Earlier I started with Rookie guard Jeremiah Fears, and today the Trend of Rookies continues with Pelicanen Second Round Pick Micah Peavy.

When Peavy was taken by the Pelicans 40th, I thought it was a reach and a big mistake, but I soon learned that this choice was not a mistake. At the age of 24, PeaVy arrives as an extremely mature prospect and someone who could have an impact from the first day.

Although I don’t expect him to get a crazy amount of run in his Rookie campaign, I really think he should do that. With his 6’7 “215 pound frame, he has the ideal body of a modern NBA wing. Pairs that with his unreal intensity and effort on the defensive end can have a serious problem that comes from their bank.

During his time that Summer League played, an average of 2.5 steals per match, because he was an absolute threat in passing lanes and as an on-ball defender.

Outside of Jose Alvarado and Herb Jones, the Pelicans don’t really have another disturbing defender, leaving the door wide open for PeaVy.

Get the most out of opportunities and show in the G League

In contrast to his fellow smokie Jeremiah fears, I see no world where PeaVy plays enough to earn potential all-smokie team subtactures, so there is no reason to set that as a goal.

Instead, I think that if he can just have a positive impact in the games he plays, that is sufficient for the Front Office to consider his Rookie season as a success. I know this sounds broad, so to be more specific, I mean coming from the bank, locking up the best player on the second unit of the opposite team, generates turnover in the passing lanes and making open shots.

If he does those things, he will be a staple in the rotation of New Orleans by the time that his second year comes.

Another way in which I think PeaVy can achieve success during his Rookie campaign is by showing that he does not belong in the G League.

Like all second round picks, PeaVy will probably log in to the G League during his Rookie season. The G is an excellent place for PeaVy to show that his game is more than the defense. Below he can show his catch-and shooting skills and show how much a beast he is on the open floor.

In recent years we have seen that for Pelicans second round picks, the best out of opportunities is everything, just look at Herb Jones. So whether it is in the NBA or G League, PeaVy has to get the most out of all the opportunities he gets.
