The METS today announced that they have selected the contract of right -handed Housing. Colleague -Rights Austin Warren has been chosen to be Triple-A Syracuse to Triple-A Syracuse as the corresponding active schedule movement. The 40-man Roster had a vacancy with Righty Rico Garcia Indicated yesterday for assignment.
Hamel, 26, is called for the first time to the big competitions and will make his Major League debut as soon as he comes in a competition. He was chosen by the Mets in the third round of the 2021 design. As he climbed the Minor League Ladder, he worked as a starter and got some love from prospecters. The short version of his reconnaissance report is that he has no overwhelming things, but has a mix of five pitch with which he can get outs against batters from both sides of the plate.
For his first few professional seasons, Baseball America Ranked Hamel as one of the top 11 or 12 prospects of the Mets. From 2021 to 2023 he threw 246 innings at different levels with a 3.51 earned run average, 30.4% strikeout percentage and 10% running speed. However, he hit a wall last year, with an ERA of 6.79 in 27 Double-A-Starts. His strikeout percentage fell to 21.3%, while his running speed climbed to 13.2%. That let him come out of Ba’s Top 30 within 2025.
This year he had more a swinging role at Triple-A, after he started eight of his 22 performances. In his 53 1/3 innings he has an ERA of 4.73, not great but much better than last year. His strike output of 25.8% and 6.6% running speed are also encouraging. At the end of June, Fangraphs Like the #22 -look in the system, ranked him and noted that it should be able to serve as a decent bulk lighting.
The Mets were crushed yesterday and lost 12-4 on the Giants. Although starter Frankie Mont Was hit, he was pushed by four innings. Then Warren came in and saved the bullpen by throwing four innings of relief, throwing 68 throws in the process. Ryne Stanek Came in to get the ninth, but struggled poorly, allowing five earned runs while they only got two. Catcher Luis Torrens came in to get the final out of the ninth.
Warren would not be available for a few days, so it is immersed for Hamel. If tonight’s game turns out to be a laugher, then Hamel will probably be the one who is tapped to enjoy some innings from the bullpen. Since this is his first main class call, he has a full series of options and can easily be sent back to the minors when the Mets want to bring in a new arm again.
