Mets’ Nolan McLean, Clay Holmes added to Team USA’s World Baseball Classic roster

Two members of the Mets starting rotation will represent the U.S. at the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

Team USA announced Wednesday that Nolan McLean and Clay Holmes have been added to the staff that also includes Paul Skenes and Joe Ryan.

McLean’s selection follows a season in which he burst onto the scene and emerged as a force atop the Mets’ rotation.

In eight starts for the Mets last season, the right-hander pitched to a 2.06 ERA with 57 strikeouts in 48 innings.

Holmes moved from Yankees reliever to the Mets rotation last season and became a reliable starter.

In 33 appearances (31 of which were starts), the right-hander pitched to a 3.53 ERA and set a career-high with 165 ²/₃ innings pitched.

Other Mets who have committed to the WBC include Francisco Lindor (Puerto Rico), Juan Soto (Dominican Republic) and Mark Vientos (Nicaragua).

Lindor serves as Puerto Rico’s team captain. Soto’s participation is unofficial.

Team USA finished second to Japan in the last WBC, held in 2023.

Next year’s event is scheduled for March 5 and 6, with competitions in Houston, Miami, San Juan and Tokyo.

The final is scheduled for March 17 in Miami.
