Mets’ Francisco Alvarez to return for critical Reds series after stunning injury recovery

The catcher will be activated from the injured list before Friday’s series opener against the Reds, a source said on Thursday, after he had completed a rehabilitation assignment that started with a sprained UCL in his right thumb and continued after his left Pink.

With less than four weeks to go during a play -off push, the Mets know that they will at least get a Gutsy Alvarez.

“It is quite remarkable what he is doing,” said Mendoza last week.
