Daniil Medvedev has never hidden his love for hard courts, the surface on which he enjoyed the most success. The reason behind the 29-year-old performance is clear.

Despite the fact that they are 6’6 ”tall and have the ability to dominate with his serve during his career, the former number 1 player in the PIF ATP ranking listed better than clay and grass because of his return. That will be an important area to keep an eye on the rest of the season, including the National Bank opened by Rogers.

“I am a specialist in Hard Court,” Medvedev once said during a competition. And although that has proven an exaggeration, an ATP Masters has won 1000 title on Clay and two Wimbledon semi-final on grass reaches the hard praises of the star.

Medvedev has performed better not only on return than on serving, but considerably Moreso on hard courts in relation to another surface. The only active players in the same category as he his Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.

“First of all, I like to return in general. I have the feeling that it is somewhere where I feel at ease,” Medvedev told Atptour.com. “I think that many boys in general prefer to return because you have a little less busy and you can go for more photos.”

According to Infosys ATP statistics, Medvedev is in the top 25 of all players, because records were kept for three important categories on hard courts: won for the first time returned from the career (31.6%), second service return points won (54.3%) and return games won (28.1%). It is not in the top 25 in one of those categories when you consider those statistics for all surfaces.

Medvedev has won almost the same speed of return games on clay as he has hard. But compared to the field, his hard-right success stands out.

The only active players who have won a higher percentage of return games and first service points on hard courts are Djokovic and Alcaraz. Only Djokovic has been better with the second servant return (54.3%) and the Serbian is generally considered the best return in history.

Due to his hard-court return, Medvedev has consistently been a threat to the surface. The 2020 Nitto ATP Finals champion has won 20 titles on tour level and 18 of them have been on hard courts.

There have been times that Medvedev also dominated on Serve. His career that was in service games, however, won (84.3%) on hard courts is 46th. It is the consistency of his return game that has made him a huge threat to opponents, especially in the largest matches.

In the Five Hard-Court ATP Masters 1000 Tournaments, Medvedev won in his career, his return first. In those five finals, he won 31.5 percent of his return points and broke a total of 17 times.

“Which always keeps me motivated [is] Also that maybe even at times that I [don’t] Win so many matches or don’t play my best, I still have these exceptional songs on return, “said Medvedev.” Usually I am probably top five or something, so that always keeps me motivated. [If] I just try to play a little better and I’m going to make it. ”

Medvedev will try to maintain that mentality and give it back success this week in Toronto, where he strives for his first title since Rome in 2023.
