Daniil Medvedev hopes to run a disappointing 2025 season for the Lynk & Co Hangzhou. After he has fallen to No. 18 in the PIF ATP ranking, he wants to jump back and rediscover the form that once made him a member of the prestigious ATP No. 1 Club.
The Nitto ATP Finals Champion 2020 will compete in his first tournament after saying goodbye to his old coach, Gilles Cervara, after his defeat against Benjamin Bonzi in the opening round of the US Open. In his press conference before the tournament, Medvedev shared that he worked with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke.
“It has not been an easy decision, but I am happy to try them with them for the rest of the season and for the [next] Season, I’m going to see how things are going, “he said.
“I love the way they work. I love what they say, and it is an interesting new project in my career.”
He also revealed that he took a break after the US was open to charge, before he returned to the training of Monte-Carlo in preparation for the upcoming Asian swing.
“I [did] Don’t play tennis two weeks after the US Open, because I knew that even the next tournament will be in a while, “he said.
“I had a very good practice week last week. I played some of my best tennis this year, perhaps my best tennis. And the goal would be to create this on the field again, because if I can do it, I can win tournaments or play good tennis and that is most important to me.”
The 29-year-old is sown in second place in Hangzhou and will be confronted with qualifying Nishesh Basavareddy or Marin Cilic in his opening match. This season he has a record of 26-18 according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.
