Matt Every hasn’t played a competitive round on the PGA Tour since the 2023 Barbasol Championship, where he missed the cut with rounds of 77-76, but the 42-year-old two-time winner is still a professional golfer – albeit in a different way.
On Monday evenings, Every hosts “The Drop” on Golf Channel and serves as an analyst on PGA Tour Live. Each has a long reputation as a fiery player, even revealing that he was regularly fined by the Tour for his on-court outbursts over the course of his career, so the irony of now working for the organization is not lost on him.
“It’s bizarre, isn’t it?” Everyone said this to hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz on this week’s episode Substandard. “I know, it’s so funny. I see some guys out there who, you know, used to discipline me, like [PGA Tour Tournament Administration SVP] Andy Levinson and stuff, and we just grin at each other.
“But you know what, I’m totally fine with how everything shook out. I’m really enjoying being there, and I’m excited about the future, too.”
“What’s the goal?” Knost asked.
“Yeah, just make it a second career,” Every replied. “I mean, the goal is probably to be with you one day, but just make it a second career. I love what I do and I’m happy.”
Every also has two primary school children and says he enjoys being closely involved in their lives.

“The career stuff is important, but at the moment it takes up a lot of my time [spent as] a father too,” Every said. “Whether it’s picking up one of the kids from school and taking them to practice, you know, you name it, I don’t know. I feel pretty good about where I am now.”
For more on Every, including the size of his PGA Tour fines and the story of why he deliberately hit a ball out of bounds during a tournament, watch the full episode of Substandard below.
