Manchester United’s Matheus Cunha has pinpointed the precise moment the club’s revival under Michael Carrick began.

United are in a rich run of form at the moment and are unbeaten in their last six games. The Red Devils remain the only Premier League team to taste defeat since the turn of the year. This series coincided with the appointment of Carrick as interim head coach, following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim.
United’s most recent result, Monday’s 1-0 win over Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, moved the team back to fourth in the table, three points above Chelsea and Liverpool and three points behind Aston Villa in third.
United looked like a completely different team under Carrick. Although they have played mostly reckless football, their performance against Everton proved that they can dig deep and get a result when necessary.
Cunha played a key role in the victory, delivering a sublime diagonal pass to Bryan Mbeumo, who registered the assist for Benjamin Sesko.
The Brazilian spoke to Globo Esporte and explained that Carrick’s status as a United legend has played a huge role in the team’s transformation.
The summer signing from Wolves also highlighted the victory over Arsenal as the catalyst that set everything in motion.
Cunha’s comments
Cunha told the news outlet about Carrick: “He is someone who was a multiple champion with Manchester United as a player.”
“He has won the Premier League several times. He was coached by Alex Ferguson, a legend in the sport. He knows what it takes to win here.”
“I believe that, more than just tactical issues, Carrick adds a lot from someone who knows the paths that represent the club.”
Cunha continued: “It’s a very strong team, but we played with a lot of courage in the Emirates. Even when we fell behind, at no point did we drop our heads or give up on our game plan. It’s about the winning mentality, about believing in what the coach has prepared this week.”
“We need that, to believe that we can compete against anyone. It was one of those games that mark a career. I will never forget it.”
The 26-year-old admitted he has one eye on the upcoming World Cup with the Brazilian national team.
“Of course the main focus is on helping Manchester United, but I cannot hide the motivation of defending the Brazilian national team, especially at a World Cup. I do everything I can to be in that group, to represent that shirt. It is every player’s dream.”
“The competition is strong, everyone knows the quality of Brazil’s attackers, but I have confidence in myself and in my work. I am having a good moment here at United and I will continue to work as much as possible to maintain and even improve this phase.”
A report from The Peoples Person reveals that Cunha is one of the few Brazilian players guaranteed to be part of Brazil’s World Cup squad.
