Manchester United defeated Arsenal 3-2 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday as Michael Carrick continued his brilliant start to life on the hot seat.
The interim head coach had the perfect game plan against the Premier League leaders, while his man-management appears to have brought out the best in previously maligned stars.
Not to mention his brave substitutions. Former head coach Ruben Amorim was known for playing too safe, but not the United legend.
He made attacking substitutions and for the second game in a row, Matheus Cunha came up with the good points after coming off the bench.
Matheus Cunha explosive eruption
Against Manchester City he set up Patrick Dorgu’s winner, while against the Gunners he scored a brilliant winner late in the match.
The Brazilian was obviously happy with the goal, but he could be the subject of an FA ban following his overzealous celebrations.
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers star was caught swearing at the on-pitch camera: “It’s the biggest!”.
Air sports commentator Peter Drury was forced to apologize live on air for Matheus Cunha’s X-rated outburst.
“If you heard any profanity during the festivities, we apologize,” he said.
History could repeat itself
The FA rules suggest that a player can be sent off for “offensive, abusive or insulting language”. They can also take retroactive action if they deem it necessary.
The 20-time English league champions were confronted with this when Wayne Rooney was caught throwing expletives at the camera after his stunning hat-trick against West Ham in 2011.
The legendary striker was given a two-match suspension and a hefty fine. Sir Alex Ferguson was furious and it will be interesting to see how Carrick and INEOS react if history repeats itself.
