Mateusz Gamrot is eager to test his ground skills against Charles Oliveira.
Gamrot was in action on short notice to fight Oliveira in the main event of UFC Rio on Saturday. It’s an intriguing matchup, and heading into the fight, Gamrot said he isn’t afraid of Oliveira’s ground game and plans to test it out.
“Sure, man, he almost tapped nine times in the UFC,” Gamrot said said to MMAJunkie. “So I see holes in the ground and I always represent the wrestling style in the cage. So it’s going to be fireworks from the start, high tempo, and I really can’t wait to exchange submissions with him. For a long time I’ve been trying to pick a fight with him because (he’s) one of the biggest, one of the most dangerous guys in the world.
“This was my dream when I signed with the UFC,” Gamrot added. “I want to challenge guys like Charles Oliveira or the biggest names. So (I’m) more than ready, buddy. Super excited. This is going to be a great show.”
Mateusz Gamrot believes he can control Charles Oliveira on the ground and even subdue the Brazilian.
Mateusz Gamrot is eager to enter enemy territory at UFC Rio
Gamrot is not only excited to test himself against Oliveira, but he is also eager to fight in Brazil.
Gamrot wants to silence the Brazilian fans on Saturday and that is something he plans to do.
“Me versus all of Brazil,” Gamrot said. “I know, I expect it to look like that, but this gives me more motivation and more power. When the cage doors close, it becomes one against one. And of course the crowd can help the referee to give the points to who wins the rounds, but I don’t think this fight will be full-distance. So the crowd can help Charles, but I’m going to enjoy this.”
“I like being in enemy territory. I remember when I fought Arman Tsarukyan it was the same. I walked to the cage and only saw Armenian flags, but this really gave me more motivation and strength to quiet the arena.”
Mateusz Gamrot is 25-3 and one NC as a pro. He scores a decisive victory over L’udovit Klein.
