A mass shooting at an indoor ice skating rink in Rhode Island left one person dead and several others injured, according to local reports.
Chaos broke out Monday at Dennis M Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, near Providence, when gunshots rang out during a high school hockey game.
One person died and four others were rushed to hospital, according to local reports. The suspected shooter has also reportedly died.
The Pawtucket mayor’s office said a young girl was killed in the shooting in a statement shared by a local newspaper WJAR. Local officials said authorities are not looking for any other suspects in the shooting.
Providence Police announced on X that it was ‘monitoring the situation’ and that officers at the ice rink were ‘providing assistance’.

State police officers were seen outside the rink behind a crime scene tape.
FBI agents were also on the scene, according to the bureau’s field office in Boston.
“At this time, there is no immediate threat to public safety and there has been no request for assistance from the FBI. However, the public should continue to avoid the area,” FBI Boston said. wrote at x.
The shooting occurred during a hockey game between two local cooperative teams: Coventry-Johnston and St. Raphael-Providence Country Day-North Providence-North Smithfield.
It was not immediately clear what led to the shooting.
A Walgreens employee told me WPRI that panicked customers entered the nearby pharmacy saying there was a shooting. The police were called.
The Coventry and Johnston school districts said all of their students are believed to be safe.
“We have learned that students have been secured at multiple locations. At this time, we are still working to confirm the status and location of all individuals,” Coventry Superintendent Don Cowart said in a message shared by WJAR.

Johnston Public Schools said according to WJAR: “We have confirmed that our Johnston High School student-athlete who participated in the game is safe. We are also aware of another Johnston student who was present, and that student is also safe.
“To our knowledge, no Johnston High School students were injured during this incident at this time.”
Providence Country Day School wrote on an Instagram Story that it was “shocked and saddened” by the shooting, adding that all students, parents and staff who attended the game are safe.
