Mason Howell cannot really explain why he did it or what it means. But when the American amateur champion 7 went on Jackson Herrington in the champion match, he saw his friend and had to be the last to do the viral “6 7” celebration.
The trend “6 7” is a viral meme based on the song “Doot Doot (6 7)” by Skrilla. The viral trend has become popular on Tiktok, and many celebrities, including Wnba star Paige Bueckers, have arrived at the meme.
Howell became the last to participate in the trend during his dominant victory at Olympic Club.
“The high school students at school really surprise me for that,” Howell told Golf’s insufficient co-host Kolt Knost and Drew Stoltz. “I couldn’t even explain it. It is something in a song. It is probably one of the stupidest things ever blown up. But it has so much popularity of children my age and younger.
“I don’t know. When those two songs are put together, people just laid up and down. One of my friends who flew out to watch the champion match, it was immediately after I went 7, he just went that way (moves hands and down) and I did it back. I didn’t know the camera was on me.
Howell, who was committed to Georgia in 2026, defeated Herrington 7 and 6 to surpass Tiger Woods as the third-year-old player to win the American amateur in history.
