Maruti has partnered with Andhra Pradesh to build automated driving test tracks

New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India on Friday said it has entered into a pact with the Andhra Pradesh government to set up and maintain four automated driving test tracks across the state. The tracks will be laid at four Regional Transport Office (RTO) locations in the state namely Eluru, Ongole, Vizianagaram and Anakapalli.

Under the MoA, the carmaker will automate and maintain these driving test tracks for a period of three years from the date of commissioning.

“In line with its vision of technology-driven solutions, we are honored to bring four Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) to the state of Andhra Pradesh,” Maruti Suzuki India MD and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said in a statement.

ADTTs use advanced technology that ensures a comprehensive, efficient and transparent process without human intervention, he added.

This ensures that only experienced drivers are issued a driver’s license, improving overall road safety, Takeuchi said.

“The computerization of driving tests is expected to bring more uniformity and objectivity in the testing process and ensure that driving licenses are issued only to candidates with requisite driving skills, thereby increasing road safety in the state,” Andhra Pradesh Transport Commissioner Manish Kumar Sinha said. The ADTTs in Eluru, Vizianagaram, Ongole and Anakapalli will cater to light motor vehicles and two-wheeler driving license applicants.

The track in Ongole is also for heavy motor vehicle (HMV) driving license applicants.
