The two former Leicester managers Brendan Rodgers and Martin O’Neill were top news this week. Brendan Rodgers walks away and Martin O’Neill takes over his job at Celtic on an interim contract.
A great start for Martin O’Neill who won 4-0 at home to Falkirk. Other results also worked in Celtic’s favour, with Hearts losing points in the 2-2 draw with St. Mirren away.
Dermot Desmond, who is currently the club’s owner and spokesperson, is not the most popular person. The commotion currently going on was of course not silenced by the appointment of Martin O’Neill. A protest was seen in and around Celtic Park.
The next match on the schedule is Sunday against Rangers. This is a semi-final of the Scottish League Cup. Martin O’Neill is a hero among Celtic fans and his press conferences are always fun and a pleasure to watch.
To see him back, it’s fantastic to get a perfect start. Martin O’Neill is an old-fashioned manager with a much more direct and attacking style. When he played for Leicester he used all the football tools available. He used whatever it took to win games. He wasn’t always winning. However, he was always challenging and strived for a result. He tried to use the best qualities of his players.
His first Celtic game against Falkirk reflected that approach 100%. It’s refreshing to see Martin O’Neill back in action, what a pleasure. He is a man from football’s holy grail, played for and against the special men in the game. He will manage this club until a new man is found, but he will also be able to get results on board, including in Europe, so we just have to wait and see.
‘If I had seen it [the fixture list] I probably would have stayed home” 😆

Celtic are on the hunt for their next manager and there are some interesting names in the hat. Robbie Keane, Ange Postecoglou and Bodo Glimt coach Kjetil Knudsen are all mentioned. Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna is also someone being talked about. One candidate strongly linked to Leicester this summer is also in attendance the list of hot candidates.
Henry Cartwright, on loan from Leicester, came into this match as a second-half substitute for Falkirk, but had no impact on the results. Cartwright (20) has failed to consolidate his place in The Bairns team, which currently sits seventh in the table. Cartwright has been involved in all ten matches played in the competition to date, but only started four. He has scored one goal so far.
Kasper Schmeichel was in goal for Celtic. Kelechi Iheanacho is currently out due to an injury and is currently unavailable. It will be interesting to monitor progress under Martin O’Neill as he could be an option for more clubs in need of an interim manager with an eye on winning.
