Russell Martin argued for patience of the fans of Rangers after his team was booed after a 1-1 draw with Dundee, their second in two Scottish Premiership matches.
Martin’s Reign came on an overwhelming start when Rangers at Motherwell at the helm last week in Motherwell at the helm, a result that the former Southampton boss led to publicly criticize his players.
They reacted with a 3-0 routing Viktoria Plzen in a Midweek Champions League qualifying match, but were then returned to the earth in Ibrox Stadium on Saturday.
Ryan Astley’s Luskop gave Dundee a 51st minute ahead, and only eight minutes later Rangers saw Wolves borrowed Djiga for a professional error, after the bad pass by John Souttar Finlay Robertson allowed.
Djidi Gassama won a late penalty, which James Tavernier somewhat converted to Rangers’ blushes, but after Cyriel Dessers saw a potential winner for the outside, the home team became full -time.
They are now confronted with the prospect of sliding four points behind Celtic, if the team of Brendan Rodgers beats Aberdeen on Sunday. However, Martin knows that there is a lot of football to play.
“Proponents are the most important people at every football club. So they have the right,” Martin told Premier Sports when he was asked about the hunters who sounded around Ibrox.
“But it is a very long season. This team will grow. Hopefully the supporters can be patient with them and grow with them.
“These are the highlights and lows of this football club. We will really be consistent with the boys and what is expected. We get better.
“I am really happy that we are not defeated. I know that sounds negative, but go to 10 men so early in the game, then the willingness to drive and try to win the game, I enjoyed that side. But we have to play with that mentality all the time.”
Martin then admitted that he regretted that he had not applied his starting line -did not apply in his starting line -up, after he had introduced the same team that PLZEN defeated so completely on Tuesday.
“Afterwards is something beautiful, but after Tuesday I probably should have made some changes and put some energy into the team,” said Martin. “So that is my responsibility.
“But we missed aggression at great moments. Especially Set-Plays, which is disappointing, because we have done a lot of work on it and did so well on Tuesday evening.
“There was definitely a lethargy. It was disappointing and frustrating. But we learn so much about the boys and they also learn so much.”
Rangers go to the Czech Republic for the second stage of their third round qualifying terrace on Tuesday and then organize Alloa Athletic in the second round of the Scottish League Cup next Saturday.
Their next league match is in St. Mirren, before they close Augustus with an old sturdy derby at Ibrox, a fixture that could already have enormous importance in the title race.
