Norwich City owner Mark Attanasio has done just that confirmed Steps will be taken in the January transfer window to turn their season around.
Norwich City currently sit 23rd in the Championship, four points from safety, despite a 3-1 win over QPR in their last outing. Philippe Clement will be hoping that NCFC can finally get going after ending their 13-match winless run.
It is not surprising that there is already a view of what January could bring. Recruitment will be key to turning around the Canaries’ season and avoiding a shock relegation, and this is not lost on majority shareholder Mark Attanasio.
At a recent General Meeting, Attanasio emphasized that the entire focus is on turning this season around. They will do everything they can to do that, and that includes spending in January.
“We are going to tackle this” he said (as quoted by the Pink On). “We will do everything we can, including making improvements in the transfer window, which Ben has done [Knapper] and his team, and the coach and his team, and Lee Dunn [head of recruitment] and his team are going to try to get the type of player that we need at that time to make sure we address this.”
The money must be better spent to save Norwich City’s season
No one can criticize Attanasio for a lack of investment. More than £50 million has been spent on transfer fees over the past 18 months to get Norwich City back to the top of the Championship.
Ultimately, however, they fell short of expectations last season and are miles off the pace this time around. This has earned sports director Knapper a lot of criticism.
Attanasio looks set to back Clement in January as the Canaries look to spend again. After three periods of failed signings, they simply have to get it right this time.
If not, NCFC could find themselves in a very dangerous position heading into the remainder of the campaign.
Before January for Norwich City
The recruitment team and Clement will be working hard together to get the house in order before January. Some early additions could quickly change the scale of Norwich City’s season. They can’t afford to wait and hope that the current crop of players will finally be good.
NCFC will be in a much better position to entice players to Carrow Road if they can win a few games between now and then.
Next up is a challenging trip to Watford to take on Javi Gracia’s side, who lost to Birmingham City on Monday. A quick turnaround is then made to play Sheffield United on the road on Tuesday.
Then, before the New Year, clashes with Southampton, Preston North End, Charlton Athletic and Watford are waiting again. Getting some results in this series will be crucial as Clement desperately tries to build some momentum at his new club.
