Maria Boswell says that the new Nike -deal “Step Forward” is for WSL2 players

The leader of the newly promoted ladies from Ipswich Town, Maria Boswell, is one of a large number of players who benefit from a new historic deal between the Women’s Super League and Nike.

As part of “A multi -year partnership” With the American sportswear company, Nike has promised to offer every female player in the top two layers in England without a personal approval agreement with football boots and goalkeeper gloves as part of his dedication to elevate the women’s game at all levels.

Head coach of Ipswich Town, Joe Sheehan, told me that almost every member of his team, recently from Tier Three in the English pyramid to the fully professional Tier Two – WSL2 – has chosen to get the most out of Nike’s generosity.

“There are now many bright boots on our training pitch, I know that,” he said. “And unfortunately no one was size 8! So I can’t even benefit from that either. Not that, I think it would be so good to see me in a few pink or yellow Nike boots on it.”

“There are tons of Nike boxes in our office and all our players without notes have really benefited deals from it, which is great. It’s a shame that I don’t take advantage, not that I still look great in pink boots!”

The 22-year-old captain of the club is someone who will benefit from the new partnership. Boswell wore fluorescent pink Nike Mercurials during a recent interview and joked with me that the new lurid boots could transform the central defender into a more flamboyant player on the field. “Maybe you may see a few skills on the field of mine! I will be Sophie Peskett!”

“To be honest, I was a black boat species girl in the last few seasons. I actually wore pink boots last year, with studs and shapes, so I got used to it a bit. I get a little stick for it, these bright pink boots shouldn’t have.

“It is clear that for a footballer boots are the most important thing. They are not cheap nowadays. For Nike, every player in WSL and WSL2 can offer a good range of boots with a good range, in the size you need and want, in studs, fungi, etc.

Now starting with her seventh season in Ipswich Town, the old clubs are almost the biggest moment in the history of the team. In the midst of their championship-winning season, a top-of-the-table collision for Hashtag United ended in March, not only in the defeat, but possibly a seasonal injury for Boswell.

She explained how she initially feared the worst. “As soon as I went down, I thought it was bad. I think the first thing that was popped in my head:” I will probably miss the rest of the season. “It was varied. I think that was the only thing I really thought of.”

“Then I got the scan results back and in the end it just became serious bruises and a compression fracture that sounded pretty bad, but in the end it was an injury of six to eight weeks. I just did absolutely everything I could to make sure it was an injury of six weeks, because that would enable me to return for the last two games.”

“I think that is what really encouraged me – motivated me. Every training session from which the girls are, and I am in the gym, I think I have that clear goal in mind, with the medical staff, this is where I work for, and yes, we have succeeded in doing it.”

In the summer, Boswell found time to play golf, but she told me it will not be something in which she surrenders during the season. “I played a bit in the summer, I mean, I am not particularly good. It was something I used to do when I was small. In the low season a few of the girls really enjoy it, so we eventually try – try – do a round wave.”

“Me and wet (Negri) actually stopped on the sixth hole on one course because we played so badly. I was like ‘wet, we lose too many balls here, this is ridiculous’. I have not actually played since we have returned (to training) because it is just so full.”

“On days off I just chill at home, or I go home to mom and dad or something. I have not played too much, I will probably get through the golf range, but I am also very much a fairweather golfer. I am not going outside in the winter!”
