Cole Palmer scored his first Premier League goal in three months to put the Blues ahead at Stamford Bridge before Malo Gusto doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time.
The win snapped a four-match winless run for the west London team, but Maresca was not in a celebratory mood at his post-match press conference.
Maresca makes cryptic Chelsea complaint after ‘worst 48 hours’
The Italian said there are “so many problems” and praised his players for “doing very well after a complicated week”.
“Since I joined the club, the last 48 hours have been the worst 48 hours since I joined the club because a lot of people didn’t support us,” he revealed.
When asked to explain what he meant, Maresca replied: “The worst 48 hours since I joined the club because people didn’t support me and the team.”
Maresca gave no details, adding that it was “people in general” – not including supporters – who did not provide support. “I love the fans and we are very happy with the fans,” he said.
The Chelsea boss was nevertheless pleased with a much-needed win to get them back into the top four, at least until Aston Villa play on Sunday.
“I think it was a very important win. Everton have been in good form over the last week so it was important to win today’s game. I think we fully deserved to win the game and the effort from the players was fantastic.”
