Ruben Amorim wasted little time in asserting his authority at Manchester United when he dropped academy graduate Marcus Rashford from the squad.
The head coach pointed to the Mancunian’s lack of effort in training and attitude as the reasons for the exile. He initially made six appearances, before missing the next thirteen.
He was loaned out to Aston Villa in January, where the forward showed signs of a revival, with four goals and six assists from 17 appearances.
Villa wanted to sign him permanently, but the Englishman was determined to go to Barcelona. The Catalans eventually qualified for him and signed him on a season-long deal with an option to buy for €30 million.
Barça is in doubt
The England international has already provided six goals and nine assists for the Blaugrana, but the La Liga giants are hesitant to sign him permanently.
The 28-year-old’s massive wages are a concern, and should Hansi Flick’s side fail to activate the purchase option, there are plenty of other parties waiting in the wings.
Paris Saint-Germain remain long-time admirers, while interest from English clubs including Chelsea and Arsenal are among those willing to take the plunge.

Now, Caught offside have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are following the proceedings with interest. The north London outfit are looking to strengthen their attack, with Thomas Frank identifying the United loanee as the perfect fit.
“The Blaugrana board are now considering whether to activate the €30 million purchase option included in the loan agreement. While Rashford’s performances have been impressive, the club’s financial constraints remain a major factor in the final decision.
Will INEOS allow domestic rival to sign Marcus Rashford?
“Barcelona still operate under La Liga’s strict salary cap rules, meaning a permanent signing must be carefully weighed against the overall wage structure.
“Despite Rashford’s desire to remain in Spain, several European clubs are closely monitoring his situation. Paris Saint-Germain have made the forward one of their top attacking targets and are prepared to invest around €50 million if Barcelona choose not to activate their purchase clause.”
“In the meantime, a return to the Premier League cannot be ruled out. Tottenham Hotspur have expressed an interest in bringing Rashford back to England as they continue to rebuild under Thomas Frank. Chelsea and Arsenal are also keeping an eye on things.”
Whether INEOS will be happy to strike a deal with a direct domestic rival remains to be seen. The fee United will demand is expected to be higher if Marcus Rashford decides to return to the Premier League at all.
