The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Monday (October 6) afternoon that they had released goalkeeper James Reimer from his professional Tryout (PTO). This announcement comes hours after they are reportedly Claimed Goaldedder Cayden received get rid of exemptions.

Reimer, who is 37 years old, played the 2024-25 season with the Buffalo Sabres, where he played 24 games. He won ten of them, placed one shutout and a 3.04 goal-to-average (GAA) with a .897 savings percentage (SV%).
During his career he played 525 games, won 225 of them, placed 31 shutouts and placed a 2.89 GAA with a .910 SV%.

Reimer previously played with the Maple Leafs during the 2010-11 and 2015-16 season season before he came to the San Jose Sharks. He also spent time with the Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings and Anaheim Ducks.
According to Darren Dreger, Reimer is hopeful that he can earn another chance somewhere in the NHL, but with the season of tomorrow his spots slim.
