Maple Leafs prospect checkpoint: How did Jacob Quillan get through the five months of 2025-2026?
Perhaps at the end of being considered one expectationQuillan has also been called up to the NHL for multiple stints this season amid injury issues at the big club. That said, he hasn’t been given too many opportunities to prove himself at the highest level. He played just four games and averaged less than eight minutes per night. He’s still searching for his first NHL point, having registered just one shot on net so far.
“I like Quillan’s energy and his speed,” Berube said. “He’s a young guy, but he could come in and provide what we need, I think tonight, and in the future. I think he’s close to being an NHL player and a full-time player with his ability. I mean, it’s a good opportunity for him tonight.”
Toronto came away with a 4-0 victory, but Quillan only got seven minutes of ice time. He has shown in the AHL that he can be a contributing factor, but if Brad Treliving and Berube plan for him to be a part of the Leafs long-term, they will need to give him more meaningful looks in the future. Depending on what their playoff chances look like deeper into the season, they may be wise to give more opportunities to young players like Quillan and focus on what’s to come.
