The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Monday that they have recalled Jacob Quillan from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.

This comes after William Nylander re-aggravated his lower-body injury on Thursday against the Vegas Golden Knights and was considered questionable for Monday’s game against the Minnesota Wild. He previously missed six games with the condition, originally suffered on December 27 against the Ottawa Senators, and returned to the lineup on January 10 against the Vancouver Canucks.
Quillan will reportedly join the Leafs to fill the void left by Nylander. He took line rushes during the morning skate on the fourth line, with Steven Lorentz and Calle Jarnkrok in the middle.
“I like Quillan’s energy and his speed,” head coach Craig Berube said on Dec. 30. “He’s a young guy, but he could come in and provide what we need, I think tonight, and in the future. I think he’s close to being an NHL player and a full-time player with his ability. I mean, it’s a good opportunity for him tonight.”
Quillan has played in three NHL games so far this season and is looking for his first career point. He has been productive at the AHL level, scoring eight goals and 27 points in 28 games with the Marlies, including his first career hat trick on Jan. 9 against the Belleville Senators. If Nylander misses significant time, Quillan could have a serious opportunity in front of him to make a name for himself on the roster.
Quillan signed with the Maple Leafs out of Quinnipiac University in 2024 as an undrafted free agent. He will become a restricted free agent this summer as he is in the final year of his entry-level contract.
