Maple Leafs’ Anthony Stolarz believes he will be back shortly after dealing with a nerve problem
Anthony Stolarz said it was a nerve problem that kept him out. Feeling good, thinks it will take “a few more practices” before he’s ready to be back
Stolarz has been out of the lineup since leaving a game against the Boston Bruins on Nov. 11 due to a previously undisclosed upper-body injury. The veteran goaltender skated with the team during this week’s road trip and is headed for an undetermined return date. Stolarz posted a 6-5-1 record in 13 appearances this season, with a save percentage of .884.
After head coach Craig Berube revealed that Stolarz had suffered a setback in his recovery on November 20, the goaltender saw a specialist before carefully working his way back into training.
“I don’t have a date as planned, but he’s traveling so he can get time with us and be with us and get practice time with us. So that’s good,” Berube said prior to Monday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche. “I think he’s getting pretty close. He just needs the reps, needs the conditioning, stuff like that.”
Assuming Stolarz needs “a few workouts,” as he said, it seems possible he could return for Wednesday’s game against the Detroit Red Wings, though the Leafs are exercising complete caution.
Toronto concludes its four-game road trip on Saturday before hosting the Minnesota Wild on Monday.
