The arrival of Michael Carrick has put Kobbie Mainoo back in the spotlight, and the Manchester United midfielder is making the most of it.
Mainoo played on the left of midfield, alongside Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes, and stood out against both Manchester City and Arsenal with his brave passing and ball carrying.
While Carrick’s midfield trio deserves a lot of praise, and rightly so, one United midfielder faces an uncertain future.
Galatasaray interested in Manuel Ugarte
Galatasaray has been trying to sign Manuel Ugarte from Manchester United since the start of the winter transfer period.
Earlier this month it emerged that Ugarte had agreed personal terms with the Turkish giants over a move in January.
Ruben Amorim’s abrupt departure diverted attention from the transfer and there has been little development on that front since.
However, Ugarte’s situation has only worsened under Carrick, who gave the Uruguay international nine minutes against City and left him unused on the bench at the Emirates this weekend.
According to Turkish journalist Süleyman Rodop (via Sports witness), Ugarte is back on the agenda for Galatasaray, who are three points clear at the top of the Super Lig.
Galatasaray ready to complete Ugarte deal
It is claimed that Gala will hold transfer talks for Ugarte on Tuesday as they look to convince United to loan the 24-year-old, with an option to buy.
“Galatasaray’s critical meeting on the transfer is tomorrow. Galatasaray and Ugarte (the players’ camp) will sit down tomorrow and the expected meeting will take place. If Manchester United accept a purchase option on Ugarte and loan him, they will complete the transfer,” Rodop said.

Despite Ugarte’s limited minutes this month, United will not sanction a midfield departure without bringing in a replacement.
The Red Devils have been strongly linked with former Leicester City defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, who is open to a return to the Premier League from Besiktas.
