The five-bedroom Waillea penthouse at 14/133-137 North Steyne, Manly has a price guide of $40 million.
A beachfront Manly penthouse is about to launch with a $40 million price tag that will blow away the suburb’s record by millions.
It will also set a new benchmark for prestigious apartments north of the bridge.
Furthermore, the agent handling the sale, Anthony Calacocci, of Belle Property Manly, is confident there is that level of demand for Manly properties, both from locals and international buyers.
The five-bedroom Waillea penthouse at the north end of the beach, at North Steyne, is owned by former banker and philanthropist Peter Hunt and his wife Tania de Jong, who bought it off the scheme in 2008.

The mega home has a property area of 717m².
It is the entire top floor of the Waillea building.
Living areas open onto a large terrace with fantastic views.
At the time, locals were baffled by the $12.2 million price tag for a Manly apartment and especially by the concept of buying two penthouses and combining them into a 717 sq m mega-house.
The record $12.2 million Waillea penthouse remained Manly’s top price for many years until some of the prestigious Bower St properties came on the market.
It was Peter’s own idea to merge the two units before the building was completed, creating a single-story home with 100 feet of ocean frontage, five bedrooms, five bathrooms and a balcony. There are also five closed garages.
Anthony Calacocci said recent sales on Manly Beach show people are willing to pay big money for opinions and position.
He will launch the Waillea penthouse on Monday (February 2) with an expressions of interest campaign.
A beautiful view over the beach.
Leasehold apartments in Aurora, the site of the former Royal Far West, sold for more than $75,000 per square meter three years ago, units in Oceania, next to the Steyne hotel, fetch $85,000 per square meter and the Waillea residence is priced at $100,000 per square meter. The penthouse in Oceania sold for $22 million, apartments in Aurora sold for up to $16 million and last year the penthouse in another North Steyne development, Ondas, sold for $18.05 million.
Peter said most beachfront apartments have only a small exposure to the ocean, while his penthouse has the longest side facing the sea and almost every room enjoys the view.
“The property is very quiet, you only hear the sound of the waves and hardly any traffic noise and the size of the apartment and the facade to the beach make it unique,” he said.
“There is nothing like it and it is unlikely there ever will be anything like it,” he added.
The penthouse, at 14/133-137 North Steyne, has living areas opening onto a large terrace, complete with Jacuzzi, outdoor shower and two Vergolas.
The penthouse has five bedrooms.
The apartment is accessible via a lift and inside there are 2.7 meter high ceilings.
Peter was an investment banker until 2018, when he retired.
His career included being an executive director at Macquarie and working at Bankers Trust before co-founding boutique investment bank Caliburn, which was later acquired by a US-based bank for around $180 million.
Peter and Tania are much loved in Manly as they founded the Manly Women’s Shelter, which later became the Womens Community Shelters of NSW.
Their model is about to launch in Victoria.
“I didn’t think at the time there could be a problem in Manly and I was shocked to realize how big it was,” he said.
Peter and Tania are moving to Byron Bay, but it’s taken them a long time to decide to put their Manly home on the market.
Manly’s current record is around $34 million for a contemporary townhouse on Bower St.
The North Shore apartment record was $28.25 million late last year for the Kurraba Residences penthouse on Kurraba Point.
A sale of $40 million would still be $10 million short of the record $50 million north coast house price at 11 Kirkoswald Ave, Mosman, the home of philanthropist Diane Balnaves, wife of the late television executive and former chairman of Ardent Leisure, Neil Balnaves.
