HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – A mandatory payout of the 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool is scheduled for Sunday at Gulfstream Park, where the popular multi-race wager remained unresolved Saturday for the eighth day of racing after an Oct. 12 mandatory payout.

The Rainbow 6 jackpot pool, which starts Saturday with a transfer of $111,271.38, is expected to grow to an estimated $1 million.

The Rainbow 6 series covers races 6 through 11, culminating in the $70,000 Empire Builder overnight handicap, a mile-grass race for ages 3 and older, in Race 10.

The series kicks off with a $25,000 1 1/16-mile grass race in Race 6. Dime Papi will make his first start on trainer Carlos David’s claim, who has impressive stats with starters outside the claim. The by Saffie Joseph Jr. trained Corta Fuego, who was beaten by less than a length as favorite on Sunday, and Murabeh, a $25,000 winner prior to three on-the-board finishes in starter fees, are also prominent in the field of 11.

A special 5 ½ furlong weight for 2-year-old fillies follows in Race 7. Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher will be represented by starter Zany, a daughter of Triple Crown champion American Pharoah who was purchased by Repole Stable for $350,000 at the Fasig-Tipton sale in August 2024. The Jose D’Angelo-trained Curly Sue returns after a second-place finish in her debut at seven furlongs, during which she set the early pace. Stablemate Sovereign Gold, who finished third behind Curly Sue in her debut, also returns. The Joseph-trained Once and Floral, a daughter of McKinsie, makes her debut after a steady run of wind at Palm Meadows.

World Traveler, who was beaten by a length last time out, believes it can benefit from picking up Edgard Zayas for Sunday’s Race 8, a $20,000 1 1/16-mile claimer for fillies and mares on grass. Drum Roll and Lady Emily Kathryn make their first start for successful off-the-claim trainers.

The Dan Hurtak-trained Lou the Body, who was just shy of victory after an extremely long trip last time, is the 9-5 favorite in the morning line in a field of seven assembled for Race 9, a starter’s fee of 6 ½ furlong. Uranium, an experienced gelding with nine wins and 12 finishes in 43 career starts, makes his first start for solid off-the-claim trainer Amador Sanchez.

The Empire Builder, which attracted an even field of 12, could very well be seen as a ‘staggered’ race for many Rainbow 6 bettors. The Joseph-trained Divin Propos, a multi-use gelding, will carry a lofty weight of 124 pounds, between two and eight pounds more than his rivals. Divin Propos will race without blinders for the first time after finishing seventh in the Turf Cup (G2) at Kentucky Downs on September 6.

The Rainbow 6 series concludes with a mile-and-70-yard $12,500 first claimer for 3-year-olds and up at Tapeta. The Joseph-trained Abuelo, who is coming off a pair of even first-time special weight efforts on grass at Kentucky Downs, could prove to be a popular “single” with Rainbow 6 bettors.

See, the king lives up to 4-5 favoritism in the armed forces

BG Stable’ See the King made a winning stakes debut in the $75,000 Armed Forces on Saturday at Gulfstream Park, living up to the expectations of the betting public that sent him into the mile-turf stakes for 2-year-olds as the 4-5 favorite.

Trainer of Hall of Famer Mark Casse, the son of Not This Time, closely followed a moderate pace from Skipping Stars, who led the way a half-mile in 47.75 seconds while being pinned down by 7-5 second choice Teleport. Lo and behold, King made a three-wide move coming into the stretch under Edwin Gonzalez and went on to win by half a length.

“I didn’t have too many instructions. They said if he came over a little early he was going to wait for horses. So I was patient with him and when he picked him up he kept going,” Gonzalez said. “I had a really perfect ride inside and at the quarter pole I had to take it outside. It worked perfectly.”

Skipping Stars finished second, half a length ahead of the late closing My Rich Uncle.

Lo and behold, the King, who finished no worse than second in his first four starts, earned a narrow first win in the special weight at Aqueduct.

Souper Forces remains undefeated and shows up angry

Live Oak Plantation’s 3-year-old homebred gelding Power dinner passed leader Layabout at the halfway point and kept his perfect record intact with an 18-1 win in Saturday’s $75,000 Showing Up.

Ridden by Cipriano Gil for trainer Michael Trombetta, Souper Forces ($38.60) covered 1 1/16 miles over a firm grass track in 1:38.37 to capture his stakes debut and improve to 3-0 this year after not racing as a youth player.

XY Prime broke from the rail post to take the field of 11 through an opening quarter mile in 22.59 seconds and was still at the front after a half in 45.43, pushed all the way out by Assertiveness, while Layabout finished clear in third. Layabout passed XY Prime as he approached the stretch and headed straight for home with a clear lead until Souper Forces came flying well out to overtake the leader.

Layabout came second, with Win With Faith third, narrow 3-1 favorite Candytown fourth and late-running Versus fifth.

Bred in Florida, Souper Forces is a bay son of Laoban who debuted with a six-furlong maiden win over older horses on the all-weather surface at Presque Isle Downs on August 5. From there it extended for a mile, capturing an open space of 1 ¾ lengths on the Colonial Downs property on September 3.
