Manchester United will rebuild their midfield during the summer transfer window. While Kobbie Mainoo could be a key part of their future project following his return under Michael Carrick, Casemiro’s departure could lead to a big-money signing.
Graeme Bailey reported via TEAMtalk that Man United are keen to sign Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba, especially following the departure of Casemiro, and the player is also open to a new challenge later this year.

It is also believed that Brighton have reduced their asking price from £100m last year to £70m this time, although United will not be the only suitors for Baleba’s services as Manchester City have also been linked with him for a few months.
Baleba the perfect Casemiro replacement
Carlos Baleba would be the ideal successor to take over from Casemiro at Manchester United. The 22-year-old has a solid midfield presence as a midfielder and is very strong in the air and physically when dispossessing opponents.
He can even function as a box-to-box midfielder at Old Trafford, thanks to his powerful dribbling, ability to make line-breaking passes and his two-footedness. It therefore fits well in a possible double-pivot setup in the middle of the park.
United are likely to be favorites for Baleba’s services over Manchester City as they can guarantee him regular game time and do not face as strong competition for midfield places as their crosstown rivals.
It is also unlikely that personal relations between the two parties will be a major issue, as Baleba will get a significantly better contract if he leaves Brighton, while the chances of the Red Devils playing in the Champions League next year are also boosted.
All things considered, he would fit right into the Manchester United squad and it will be interesting to see when the club do their part to get the transfer over the line, as they would ideally want Baleba available at the start of pre-season this summer.
