Manchester City fans watched as their team deservedly lost on Saturday.
Eddie Howe and his Newcastle United team had defeated Pep Guardiola and his side at St James’ Park in the League Cup just over two years ago.
However, this was Eddie Howe’s first ever win as manager in the Premier League, having failed to do so in the previous 18 attempts at Bournemouth and then United.
Manchester City fans will see their players lose in a Premier League match for the first time since January 2019, when Rafa Benitez recorded a 2-1 win.
Great to see how well Newcastle United’s players performed on Saturday to take the valuable three points and get what they deserved.
A big bonus also to see that so many Manchester City fans are having difficulty coping with the defeat…
Manchester City fans respond via their Blue Moon message board after loss to Newcastle United on Saturday:
‘I said before the game that I would settle for a draw because Newcastle have been great in the big games of the Champions League!
Plus they have all their best players back and their midfield is one of the best!’
‘Newcastle deserved it. They wanted it more. We were bobbins (especially Pep).”
“You know what, I also immediately left that grubby choir boy across from Harvey Barnes.”
‘A tough loss to accept. We should have scored more, we also conceded too many big chances.
Just not good enough against a decent team away from home.’
‘Will the club make an official complaint about the referee on Saturday?’
‘I’m not going to lose too much sleep over this. Newcastle played well.’
‘The PFA should definitely do/say something about career-ending tackles like that baboon Schaer on Foden.”
‘I think this was a typical performance of the officials we have seen over the last ten years. That makes all the trophies we have won even more remarkable.”
“Can’t we leave that kind of thing to sore losers?” I like to think we’re better than that.’
‘A difficult place to play straight after the break, but still a disappointing performance.
Why does Pep put Cherki in the starting line-up? Facing the most physical midfield in the league, no less.”
‘It was a daylight robbery.
We absolutely have to complain about the 2-1 defeat where we didn’t get 2 clear penalties, the opponent got offside and Schar + Tonali not only didn’t get a red card, but didn’t even get a yellow card!’
“It wasn’t three terrible decisions, it was about ten.”
‘No. We all have to deal with Arsenal and Liverpool fans when they behave like that after a bad decision, so let’s not stoop to that level.
Yes, the referee had a bad match, but it’s time to move on. What worried me more was how toothless we looked.”
‘We saw something similar to this thread on social media after the Liverpool game. And we rightly took the p.ss.’
‘We weren’t good enough to get a result. We were not robbed by the officials. Even if they made mistakes or were poor… it wasn’t blatant corruption.”
‘I thought we should have at least one pen, but decisions don’t always go your way.
I think complaining when a decision doesn’t go your way is pretty bad. Leave that to Liverpool.’
“We are in a reconstruction/transitional phase of development. We have fantastic players, with flaws in their game.
Against Newcastle, our current team – regardless of who plays – would find it difficult. We can’t keep the ball as well as we used to without giving countless chances to the opponent… because our press isn’t as intense as it used to be, and because our players aren’t nearly as good at winning one-on-one duels.
Anyway, Newcastle’s way was a 50-50 situation for me. We have lost. So be it.’
‘Eddie Howe gets away with playing shi.e football because he is an English manager. In fact, they are overly physical and if it was clear to everyone that we needed more than Nico and Bernardo in midfield against their three midfielders, then I would put that on Pep.”
(***The vast majority of comments from Manchester City fans claimed there was corruption, heavily done by etc. etc. However, it would have been a bit boring to post any more lame comments like this as many of them said the same thing over and over again and alleged some sort of conspiracy against Man City. Quite unbelievable really when Newcastle United have had to endure so many horrible decisions from match officials while playing this game, especially in games at St James’ Park)
