A doctor warned about the dangers of drinking too many carbonated drinks, after being forced to remove 35 stones from a man’s bladder who was in the habit of drinking three liters of coca-cola every day.
In an Instagram video that has so far attracted more than 8.5 million views, said the Urologist-based urologist Dr. Thales Andrade that ‘excessive’ consumption of sugary, carbonated drinks can cause kidney stones.
Speaking in Portuguese, he showed viewers a dish of various large yellow stones that he had removed, while the patient lay on the table after the procedure.
Kidney stones are calcium deposits that build in the urinary tract and go to the bladder to be analyzed, causing sharp pain, nausea, vomiting, pinching or stabbing and potentially blood in the urine.
If they remain untreated, they can migrate to the bladder and lead to life -threatening complications such as kidney failure or sepsis – when the body attacks its own tissues and organs.
The caption under the video explained how the stones developed.
Drinking too much Coca-Cola, which contains large amounts of sugar, can increase the amount of calcium in the body, which increases the risk of stones.

In addition, carbonated drinks are filled with chemicals such as phosphoric acid, which creates an acid environment in the kidneys that further encourages the formation of harsh stony lumps.
Dr. Andrade added: ‘Maintaining adequate hydration and avoiding excessive consumption of soft drinks are essential measures for prevention. Kidney health starts with the daily choices of what we drink. ‘
According to the National Kidney Foundation, the larger the stone, the more noticeable the symptoms.
A severe pain on both sides of the lower back is a common complaint. These periods of intense pain can take minutes or hours.
Blood in the urine, a urinary tract infection and sick or vomiting are also other common warning signals of the ailment.
Kidney stones find more than one in ten people, usually between 30 and 60, and are caused by waste products in the blood -forming crystals.
Over time, crystals build up to form a harsh stony lump.
As soon as a kidney stone has formed, the body tries to pass it through urine. Most are small enough to do this and can be managed at home.
However, if they become too large, an operation is usually needed to remove them.
