Man Utd ‘have a lot to do’ as Amorim frustrated by lack of intensity – Soccer News

Ruben Amorim admitted Manchester United “have a lot to do” after they suffered a 1-0 defeat to 10-man Everton on the one-year anniversary of his first game in charge.

Idrissa Gueye was sent off in the 13th minute after he got into an argument with Michael Keane and punched his teammate in the face.

Everton scored the winner in the 29th minute, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall skipping two tame challenges to bend his strike past Senne Lammens, who got a hand in it.

As such, United lost a Premier League match at Old Trafford after seeing the opposition pick up a red card for the first time ever, winning 36 and drawing 10 from the previous 46.

That’s despite the Red Devils having 25 attempts, 23 of which came after the broadcast, and six of them on target as they amassed 1.7 expected goals (xG).

United were greeted by boos from the home crowd at full-time, and Amorim was also disappointed, especially with the lack of intensity his side showed.

“Really frustrated, just like every other person who supports Man Utd,” he told Sky Sports.

“The way we started the match, the way we didn’t understand how to play against ten men. They deserved to win. Even suffering with ten men is normal.”

“We had a lot of chances, but the quality and decision-making weren’t there. The understanding of every game situation wasn’t there. And then the quality around the penalty area.”

“But the most important thing is the intensity. You feel it immediately when we start the match. In the first minute you can feel when we are at the highest intensity level and when we are not. If we are not, we cannot win this way.”

“Naturally [he is surprised]. But I have said on many occasions that I understand that we still have a lot to do. But I’m really frustrated with the way we played the game, especially at home, and understanding what happened with the other clubs this weekend, looking at the table and feeling everything.

“And the way we presented from the first minute is really frustrating.”

United have now failed to win any of their last ten Premier League games when trailing at half-time (D2 L8) since coming from behind to beat Southampton 3-1 at Old Trafford in January.

Amorim’s side, who were unbeaten in five games, missed the chance to move up to fifth place and benefit from other teams above them dropping points this weekend, but instead remained tenth.

“This is more than [a missed opportunity]”Amorim added. “We have to play the game in a different way.

“Sometimes we can do it, sometimes we can get good results and performance, but sometimes we fall away.”
