Manchester United and Arsenal are in the battle to sign Eintracht Frankfurt left-back Nathaniel Brown TEAMtalk.
Brown rose through FC Nuremberg’s youth system and really started to stand out when he broke into their senior team in the German second tier.
His performances there caught the attention of Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosche, who moved quickly to bring him in for a reported paltry fee.
Since making the move to Deutsche Bank Park, he has been excellent for the club over the past 18 months. The 22-year-old has played 48 games, scoring 14 goals and becoming one of the key figures in the side.
His rise has also earned him a place in the German national team, where he has already played twice.
It seems Brown’s achievements have not gone unnoticed TEAMtalk claims several Premier League clubs are keeping a close eye on the versatile full-back in Germany.
Among the clubs showing interest in a move for the Germany international are Man Utd and Arsenal, who are now keeping a close eye on him ahead of a possible move to England in 2026, the report said.
The report adds that Brown has included a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ in his contract that will allow specific European clubs to activate this, despite the youngster having extended his contract with the club until 2030.
Depth
Although the precise amount in the clause has not been disclosed, TEAMtalk suggests that any potential deal would cost up to £44m for Frankfurt to consider selling Brown, who is also key for Manchester City and Newcastle United.
Ruben Amorim’s system is highly dependent on the right profile at left back, so he will keep a close eye on the situation on that side of the pitch.
Patrick Dorgu offers plenty of promise in the full-back role, providing solidity and attacking prowess, while Diogo Dalot’s ability to switch between either flank gives the side some flexibility.
Yet Luke Shaw’s tendency to miss parts of the season due to niggling injuries means United may need to consider further reinforcements if they want to avoid falling short in an important area.
Brown’s form this season has shown he is capable of taking on that role, strengthening Amorim’s defensive options and creating healthy competition with Dorgu if United trump competition from Arsenal to sign him.
The Gunners appear well-stocked in defence, having invested heavily in players such as Piero Hincapie and Christhian Mosquera last summer. However, it appears Mikel Arteta still wants further reinforcements with Brown on Arsenal’s wishlist.
