Manchester United are reportedly planning to make a move to sign Villarreal star Pape Gueye, the Spanish newspaper reports Transfers.
After his contract with Olympique de Marseille expired, the 27-year-old joined the Yellow Submarine as a free agent a few years ago. Now he has established himself as a key starter in Marcelino’s starting lineup.

After leading the Spanish side to Champions League qualification with a top-five finish last season, he is repeating that success this season, with Villarreal currently third in La Liga with 51 points. The lead over number five Real Betis is currently nine points.
In 19 La Liga appearances, Gueye scored three goals and registered a single assist. In addition, he helped his side beat Valencia 2-1 last weekend by scoring the winner.
As well as showing his qualities at club level, the 27-year-old has also impressed on the international stage, helping Senegal win AFCON last month. He even scored the winner against Morocco in the final.
Now, Transfers state that Man Utd have started exploring options to sign a new midfielder as a potential replacement for Casemiro, who will leave as a free agent this summer.
They have identified Gueye as a serious target as they have been impressed with his recent standout performances. However, Villarreal have no intention of letting him leave cheaply as his existing contract runs until 2028.
Gueye to Man Utd
Villarreal have put a £52 million price tag on his head, and the 20-time English champions are said to be ready to complete the operation by matching the Spanish side’s asking price.
Gueye, who is 1.80 meters tall, is fast over the ground, strong, technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines and is also efficient in defensive contributions.
The African is currently in the prime stages of his career and could be a smart signing for Man Utd to add depth to the engine room if they were to sign him.
However, it will be interesting to see whether the Old Trafford club will ultimately make a concrete move to secure his services in the summer.
Meanwhile, following Everton’s Premier League assignment last night, United face Crystal Palace next weekend.
