Manchester United have reportedly launched a major proposal to sign Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde, according to Catalan newspaper E-news.
The 27-year-old came to Los Blancos from Uruguayan Peñarol in 2016. Initially, he took his time to settle into his new surroundings and was even loaned out to Deportivo La Coruña in 2017 to play regularly and develop his career.
But Valverde has now established himself as an undisputed starter in the Spanish giants’ starting line-up, winning three La Liga titles, two Champions League trophies and countless other major cup competitions.
However, E-news states that Valverde is not happy with his current situation at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu as although he likes to play in the middle of the park, he has been deployed in the right-back position due to the injury absences of Dani Carvajal and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Uruguayan international therefore feels that his development into a top-class midfielder has stagnated and is now considering leaving.
Carvajal has struggled with fitness issues in recent years, so former manager Carlo Ancelotti used Valverde at the right-back position in the Spaniard’s absence.
Valverde may have thought that he would no longer have to play in this position after the arrival of Alexander-Arnold last summer. However, the former Liverpool man has also struggled with fitness issues.

As a result, Xabi Alonso has been forced to use Valverde on the right side of defence, and Alvaro Arbeloa has continued to do the same since the former Bayer Leverkusen boss’s departure.
The report states that Man Utd want to sign him by taking advantage of his current situation and have already made a formal offer worth around £104 million.
United have guaranteed him a role in his favored midfield position; As a result, he was tempted by the prospect of a move to Old Trafford, a development described as a ‘real earthquake’ in the market.
Real Madrid would not permanently allow his mid-season departure as his existing contract runs until 2029.
He is one of the best midfielders in the world and is currently in the peak of his career. So he would be a big step forward for Man Utd if they eventually manage to secure his service in January or next summer.
