Manchester United are making a sensational bid to re-sign Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay in 2026. Ekrem Konur.

After making the move from Old Trafford to Napoli last season, McTominay has developed into one of the most impressive midfielders not just in Serie A, but across Europe.

The 28-year-old adapted immediately in Naples, and his impact played a pivotal role in securing the league title for the Partenopei during the 24/25 season.

The same year also brought significant personal accolades, with McTominay claiming the Serie A MVP award and finishing 18th in the 2025 Ballon d’Or standings.

His momentum has continued into the current season, with the Scotland international maintaining his fierce, energetic performances for Napoli, recording four goals and one assist in fourteen appearances across all competitions in the 2025/26 season.

There were also summer reports suggesting a possible Premier League comeback as several English clubs are believed to be keeping a close eye on him.

It seems that the interest is now concrete, according to transfer journalist Ekrem Konur claims Man Utd have ‘investigated’ the possibility of re-signing McTominay to Old Trafford.

The Scotland international has three years left on his contract at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, giving Napoli a strong lead. Women adding that the Serie A champions will not consider offers of less than £70m due to United’s interest.

However, the Red Devils are not alone in the race for the 6ft 7in star as the report claims Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton have also made inquiries for the Scotland international.

Combative midfielder

After spending significant sums transforming an attack that struggled in 2024-25 – a campaign that failed to produce any success and ended with a frustrating 15th place finish – Ruben Amorim has shifted his focus to strengthening the midfield.

Casemiro’s contract expires when the season ends, and doubts still remain over the long-term situations of both Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte.

Due to this uncertainty, United have begun assessing midfield alternatives and have been linked with multiple targets ahead of the January window, with McTominay emerging as the latest name under consideration.

The 28-year-old fits the ideal midfield profile to take Ruben Amorim’s side to the next level. He combines combativeness off the ball, efficiency on the ball and a keen eye for goal to strengthen United’s midfield ranks.

With the report suggesting Antonio is keen to keep Conte, a January move seems unlikely, so it will be interesting to see whether the Red Devils opt for an alternative or wait until next summer.
