Man Utd are battling Tottenham to sign Lautaro Rivero

Manchester United are reportedly battling Tottenham Hotspur over a deal to sign River Plate centre-back Lautaro Rivero, according to a recent Argentinian report.

The Red Devils currently have Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro, Lisandro Martínez and Ayden Heaven as central defenders. However, De Ligt has been out of action in recent months due to a back injury.

Remember new hair

On the other hand, Maguire has suffered from fitness problems in recent years, but after recovering from his problems, he showed excellent performances in the last two matches. The 32-year-old’s existing contract expires at the end of this season and he is expected to leave on a free transfer.

Meanwhile, Leny Yoro showed inconsistent performances during the first half of this season; As a result, he has found himself on the periphery in recent weeks. The Frenchman is still very young and needs time to develop.

Martínez has also had several fitness problems in recent years and after returning from a serious knee injury, he is once again beginning to present promising performances.

Heaven, on the other hand, has shown glimpses of his great potential since joining from Arsenal last year. However, since the arrival of Michael Carrick, he has not yet been able to start.

According to a recent report (via TEAMtalk), amid Martínez’s recent injury problems, United are considering replacing him and are keen to sign Rivero.

Conflict

River Plate has produced several top talents in recent years, with Enzo Fernandez, Julian Alvarez and Franco Mastantuono being notable examples, and Rivero is considered one of their ‘greatest gems’.

Besides United, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Strasbourg have all expressed their interest in him as they were impressed by his performances.

The report states that the 22-year-old is contracted until 2028 and has an £87m release clause. United is willing to wait for the share price to fall before making a possible plunge.

The Argentinian is a 1.80 meter tall left-footed central defender. He is a talented player and could be a smart signing for Man Utd or Tottenham if either club were to buy him.

However, it remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford club or the Lilywhites will ultimately make a concrete move to secure his services.
