Manchester United defender Patrick Dorgu has won the club’s December Goal of the Month award for his stunning volley against Newcastle.
Dorgu’s stunner
Dorgu scored the only goal of the match as United beat Newcastle 1-0 at Old Trafford on Boxing Day.
United were under pressure to record a win, having been defeated by Unai Emery’s Aston Villa in the previous match. In the absence of Amad, Bryan Mbeumo, Noussair Mazraoui and the injured quartet of Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes, Ruben Amorim was forced to change his approach and deploy a four-man defense.
This radical change saw Dorgu deployed in an advanced role on the right. The Dane performed admirably in the largely unknown position.
The highlight of his performance was his volley in the 24th minute. Diogo Dalot’s long throw into the penalty area was met by Nick Woltemade, who was unable to head the ball sufficiently out of the danger zone.
Dorgu was the first to reach the loose ball. In one fluid move, the 21-year-old unleashed a first-time strike that curled into the bottom corner, well out of the reach of a helpless Aaron Ramsdale.

The goal was Dorgu’s first for the club since joining from Italian side Lecce in January 2025.
He burst into wild celebration and the goal gave him confidence for the rest of the match, which he saw brilliantly as United took all three points.
Dorgu wins prize
United have confirmed this that the volley has been named Goal of the Month for December.
Dorgu’s goal came against two other fantastic goals. These included Bruno Fernandes’ fantastic free-kick in the dramatic 4-4 draw against Bournemouth, as well as Matheus Cunha’s sensational finish in the defeat to Villa.
Dorgu’s goal received the most votes, which means a special achievement in an unforgettable way.
Meanwhile, United are back in action on Sunday when they head to Elland Road to take on a rejuvenated Leeds United team.
