Man United not looking at Enzo Maresca as Ruben Amorim’s replacement – Man United News and Transfer News | The People’s Person

Manchester United’s recent problems have put Ruben Amorim back in the spotlight. The Portuguese head coach invested a fortune in his squad ahead of the start of the new season after a dismal 2024/25 season in which they finished 15th.

Amorim tried to address his goalscoring problems by signing Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. Senne Lammens was signed with a view to solving the long-standing goalkeeper conundrum, with the Red Devils spending a total of more than £200 million on newcomers.

Although the team is showing signs of revival, the English giants have lacked consistency so far, leaving fans frustrated.

A gloomy December

United played six games in the Premier League last month, recording two wins and three draws so far. Their only defeat came against Aston Villa, while the Amorim side also dropped points against West Ham United, Bournemouth and at Old Trafford against Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this week.

The Red Devils now sit sixth in the table after 19 games, three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool and 15 behind leaders Arsenal. The situation has increased speculation about the future of the Portuguese head coach. Reports suggest the club are monitoring Oliver Glasner as his possible replacement.

Meanwhile, Chelsea, who are fifth in the league and level with United, recently parted ways with Enzo Maresca. The Italian manager worked with Red Devils CEO Omar Berrada and football director Jason Wilcox during their time together at Manchester City, sparking talks of a reunion at the Theater of Dreams.

Acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano has now shed light on the matter.

United are not looking at Enzo Maresca

Speaking of his YouTube Channel, Romano stressed that United have no intention of replacing Amorim with Maresca.

“About Enzo Maresca and the links we had today with the Manchester United job, probably linked to the fact that Omar Berrada, who is now one of the leading faces of the Manchester United project, has worked with Enzo Maresca at Manchester City in the past,” said Romano.

“At this stage I have been told that there are no talks between Man Utd and Enzo Maresca. At this stage the club is again interested in the future, not the present, in Enzo Maresca, Manchester City.”

“Man Utd are sticking to their guns, supporting Ruben Amorim and not making any other plans at this stage. Guys, then we can’t predict the future.”

“These Maresca stories show how things in the manager market can sometimes change in a few days, in a few weeks, and that is also what happened with Enzo Maresca, who left Chelsea in a completely unexpected way at the beginning of January. But again, for Amorim that is not the case at the moment and Man Utd continue to support their manager.”

Amorim has recorded 24 wins and 21 defeats in his 62 games in charge of the Red Devils so far, achieving a winning percentage of 38.71%, the lowest of his managerial career.

Final thoughts

INEOS showed they have a long-term plan by maintaining their faith in Amorim after United’s worst season in the Premier League era. They even invested in their head coach’s philosophy, adding players who fit his tactics over the summer.

It is therefore not likely that the Red Devils will throw everything away. However, Amorim will remain under pressure unless he manages to improve his team’s fortunes in the coming weeks.
