A fiancée was left to mourn her partner after what appeared to be a fatal car crash, except he was actually still breathing.

Sipho William Mdletshe was declared dead after a serious car crash in 1993, but just 48 hours later he screamed for release from the freezing mortuary in which he suddenly discovered he was trapped. The man in his 20s, from the township of Sebokeng south of Johannesburg in South Africa, was promptly transported to a mortuary.

He was then placed in a cold room, as is customary for such statements. But the story took a chilling turn two days later when mortuary staff heard eerie noises coming from one of the metal compartments.

Realizing that something was drastically wrong, the workers opened the drawer and to their surprise, after regaining consciousness, Mdletshe was breathing and calling for help from inside.

His survival was absolutely miraculous and according to published accounts he gradually came to after the impact, became alert enough to understand his location and then began screaming. This action ultimately saved his life, reports the Mirror.

Yet the nightmare did not end there for the unfortunate Mdletshe, Unilad reports. When he tried to reunite with his fiancée – who herself suffered minor injuries in the crash – she reportedly retreated in panic, convinced he was something supernatural after being informed of his death.

She even believed he was a zombie returned from the grave. In another extraordinary account of someone coming back from the dead, Essie Dunbar’s family were heartbroken when she died aged just 30 after suffering an epileptic fit.

Her funeral was quickly organized and she was buried two meters underground in a wooden coffin in South Carolina, USA in 1915.

However, her grieving sister arrived late for the service and requested that the coffin be disinterred so that she could pay her last respects.

What unfolded next defies imagination. When she opened the lid, Essie was very much alive and smiling back at those present.

The ministers overseeing the service panicked and tumbled into the grave, leaving one with broken ribs, according to “Buried Alive,” published in 2002.

Even Essie’s own relatives fled in panic, convinced they were witnessing something supernatural as the woman climbed out of the coffin and tried to follow them. Amazingly, Essie resumed her peaceful existence after her harrowing experience.

Accounts from decades later describe her working the fields, picking cotton and living on her own.

More recently, a woman who was pronounced dead in a hospital shockingly ‘came back to life’ while being transported to her own funeral last year. After her condition worsened, it was confirmed that she had died and she was transferred from the mortuary to the funeral home in preparation for her funeral.

But staff were reportedly shocked when they discovered the elderly woman actually had a heartbeat. What adds to their concern is that she allegedly moved her fingers.

Paramedics at the Son Valenti Funeral Home in Palma, Mallorca, confirmed she was alive and immediately returned her to the city’s Juan March de Bunyola Hospital.
