Free agent guard Malik Beasley has signed with the Santurce Crabbers of Puerto Rico’s Baloncesto Superior Nacional League, the professional basketball franchise of Grammy Award-winning artist Bad Bunny, as he awaits a ruling on an ongoing NBA gambling investigation, both parties confirmed to ESPN’s Shams Charania on Friday.
The BSN season kicks off in March, giving Beasley a competitive platform to showcase his abilities ahead of the 2026 NBA Free Agency while the league’s investigation remains unresolved.
The NBA investigation focuses on allegations of improper betting on NBA games and player betting during the 2023-2024 season, when Beasley was a member of the Milwaukee Bucks. ESPN reported in June 2025 that the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York had launched a parallel federal investigation, halting all free agent negotiations on behalf of Beasley one day before the official opening of free agency. Beasley was set to sign a three-year, $42 million deal with the Pistons before news of the investigation broke.
Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney, subsequently told ESPN that his client was not targeted and had not been charged in the federal investigation, which has yielded four guilty pleas in connection with a gambling scheme involving former NBA player Jontay Porter.
At least one US sportsbook discovered irregular betting activity tied to Beasley’s statistical lines starting in January 2024. A gambling industry source flagged a January 31, 2024 Bucks-Trail Blazers game in which the odds of Beasley recording fewer than 2.5 rebounds shifted sharply from +120 to -250 before tip-off. Beasley finished with six rebounds and the marked bets lost.
In his most recent NBA season with the Detroit Pistons, Beasley averaged 16.3 points and shot 41.6% from three-point range, setting a franchise single-season record with 319 made three-pointers.
