The two companies signed a Strategic Cooperation Agreement (SCA) aimed at advancing Embraer’s C-390 Millennium as part of the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) program. The pact was formalized at the inauguration of Embraer’s national office in Aerocity, New Delhi.
This agreement builds on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at the Embassy of Brazil in New Delhi in February 2024. It extends the partnership to include joint marketing, localization and development of India as a hub for the C-390 through manufacturing, assembly and maintenance operations.
Mahindra and Embraer will work with the Indian military and aerospace ecosystem to explore opportunities for local manufacturing, supply chain partnerships and MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) services. The long-term goal is to establish India as a regional center for the production and support of the C-390 Millennium aircraft.
Vinod Sahay, Member of the Group Executive Board of Mahindra Group, said: “By deepening our partnership with Embraer, together we will ensure that the C-390 Millennium for the IAF’s MTA campaign will not only contribute to India’s security and ambitions, but also support the ‘Make in India’ philosophy and further self-reliance.”
Embraer’s C-390 Millennium is already in service or on order with air forces in Brazil, Portugal, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, South Korea, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Slovakia, Lithuania and one undisclosed customer. Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, said: “The Indian aerospace industry is dynamic and world-class, and together we can deliver the most advanced and reliable military transportation solution to the Indian Air Force.” The partnership reflects Embraer’s commitment to India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative and strengthening strategic ties between Brazil and India in the defense and space sectors.
