Kylian Mbappé scored one goal and assisted another when 10-man Real Madrid insured a hard-fought 2-1 win over Real Sociedad to maintain their flawless start of the La Liga season. The victory, despite a red card from the first half, keeps Madrid at the top of the table.
Mbappé opened the score in the 22nd minute and took advantage of a defensive error before he ended with confidence for his fourth competition goal of the campaign. However, Madrid’s control was challenged in the 32nd minute when defender Dean Huijsen received a red card for the loss of Mikel Oyarzabal, who had clearly broken.
Although they were a man, the visitors doubled shortly afterwards via Arda Güler. Mbappé was again instrumental and founded the young midfielder with smart cuts. Real Sociedad responded after the break, with Oyarzabal converting a penalty in the 52nd minute after a handball by Dani Carvajal.
The defense of Madrid, reinforced by a late replacement for Carvajal, stuck against persistent pressure to see the result. The victory moves the side of Carlo Ancelotti to 12 points of four games, five free from Rivals Barcelona, who are fifth and have a match in hand.
The competition had a special meaning for the real Sociedad manager Xabi Alonso, who faced his former club. Alonso started his career in the Academy of the Basque club, played for their senior team and started his coaching career with their B -side.
