A Kabaddi match between boys and girls in the Niwari district of Madhya Pradesh, organized on the occasion of the National Sports Day (on August 29 every year), caused a political controversy after a video of the game went viral on social media. The congress objected to the event, called it an act of “indiscipline” and the organizers interviewed.

However, the debate took a new turn after the female players themselves had rejected the allegations. The players said the game was played with their permission and that there was nothing inappropriate.

“We practice with boys, even at district and state level, so there is no matter of indiscipline,” said one of the players. Another added that raising questions about the video was ‘unfounded’, and emphasized that the game was played by Choice. They said that politicizing sports only lowers the moral of athletes.

The BJP hit back to the congress for raising objections, and accused it from dragging sports to politics. BJP leader Anil Pandey said that the congress must first clarify its position about the controversial comments of his leaders instead of focusing on players.

Referring to the former Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Chef Jity Patwari’s earlier comments that connect women to drink, Pandey said that the party was silent about it, but now a controversy changed a controversy.

“The opposition is unnecessary exercise.
