Summer has only just begun, but Melbourne’s auction scene is already making waves, with Olympic champion Mack Horton one of the high-profile sellers going under the hammer this weekend.
Horton and his wife Ella will auction their South Melbourne apartment at 12.30pm, with a price estimate of $900,000-990,000.
The two-bedroom home at 192A Bank St is located in a circa-1880s building and features vaulted ceilings, polished hardwood floors, exposed parapets and two terraces overlooking Clarendon St.

Jellis Craig Port Phillip director Warwick Gardiner told The Herald Sun the property had attracted younger buyers and downsizers.
“It has lots of light, outdoor space and a walk-in wardrobe which the owners added by converting a smaller bedroom,” Mr Gardiner said.
The apartment is close to South Melbourne Market, Albert Park Lake and the Royal Botanic Gardens.
Horton retired in 2024 after a decorated career that included gold in the 400m freestyle at the Rio Olympics, four Commonwealth Games titles and gold at the World Championships.

Melbourne heads into the weekend with 1,515 auctions planned, a 13 percent increase on the same period last year.
Another 1,481 auctions have been booked for next week, an increase of 16 percent, capping off one of the busiest spring sales seasons in recent years.
PropTrack senior economist Angus Moore said the increase reflected strong stock market activity and steady buyer demand.
“Prices are about 5 percent higher than a year ago and have increased every month this year,” Moore said.
“It has been one of the most stable periods of growth Melbourne has seen for some time.”
Mr Moore said the impact of new rules requiring sellers to reveal their auction reserve price remains unclear.
“Interest rates and broader price developments next year will be more important than any change,” he said.

In South Yarra, filmmakers Nadia Tass and David Parker will also take their old home at 14 Lang St to auction today, with price expectations of $3 million to $3.3 million.
The former ice cream cone factory, attached to a Victorian cottage, served as a creative base for the couple as they worked on films such as Malcolm and The Big Steal.
They raised their sons on the property, which also includes an indoor swimming pool and a 441 m² block.
Richard Mackinnon of Marshall White said interest had come from families planning a major renovation or rebuild and from buyers considering a multi-home development.
Reservoir leads the auction activity this weekend with 27 auctions planned, followed by Mount Waverleym with 25 auctions, Glen Waverley and Richmond, with 22, and Craigieburn with 20.
