24 -year -old Leicester Defender Luke Thomas has signed a new deal of four years. In the past two seasons, he has been more or less the answer to that left -flank alternative. He played 14 games in Premier League last season. In this championship season he is on the field in the left in every game.

He was a player who sent Enzo Maresca twice on loan, and did not fit in his play system. He spent half a season with Sheffield United in the Premier League. Later he did a loan to the championship to play for Middlesbrough. A total of 24 league games, 12 each for those two games in the 2023/24 season.

It has been a stumbling career so far, but also an impressive one. He has a winner medal from the FA Cup and also won the euros with England U21. His route to the first team football in Leicester has been a path of in and outs.

He is a local boy and what this club revolves around, who brings up young talent. Ben Chilwell really gave Luke Thomas the chance to take over that left role permanently. However, all his managers so far have, in addition to Marti Cifuentes, went for other alternatives. Somehow Luke Thomas has succeeded in bouncing back and get his place in the first eleven.

He has shown that he can handle the Premier League level and last season he stopped Mo Salah in Anfield. He has also often shown promising game against long opposition. But he also made a slip or two. These briefs have given him long resting periods on the couch. He even spent time on the terraces.

On his best days you start to believe that he could be an alternative to Thomas Tuchel and England. On other days he looks far from that. This season can be his breakthrough. Marti Cifuentes has given him a lot of confidence. Hopefully this will result in a long -term liquid form.

We hope he will take that step in the entire team of England. Thomas Tuchel has no real answer to the left back position. Luke Shaw is not becoming younger and he often struggles with injuries. Hopefully Luke Thomas will seize this opportunity and build on his people.
