Making six figures from a side job may sound like a dream come true, but for some people it is reality. These people have found a path to a great income that doesn’t require a standard 9 to 5, even though they are still working at it.

Alex Spinoso, MD and CEO of Genesis Lifestyle Medicine, makes six figures from his side business of reading blood tests for people. “My best advice for someone who wants to make at least $100,000 a year from side hustles is to leverage what you’re already an expert at,” he recommended. “What specific skills do you have that people would pay money for?”

Once you’ve worked this out, Spinoso said, “Start reaching out to people who you know need your services, through direct marketing or word of mouth. Work backwards from $100,000 and, based on the costs your client incurs for using your services, calculate how many people you need to help or sign up to make $100,000. Divide this number monthly and aim for that goal! Soon you’ll have an easy six-figure part-time job.”

Here are some more ideas rush your way to a six-figure side job.

Although it may be hard to believe, it is possible to make six figures with lawn care, especially if you have a steady stream of clients and are willing to keep busy during the week and on weekends.

If you’re having trouble finding customers, reach out to neighbors and members of your community. There are even apps that connect homeowners with local lawn care professionals, such as GreenPal.

“Many of our lawn care providers are part-timers,” says Bryan Clayton, the CEO of GreenPal, an app best described as Uber for lawn care. “Some are firefighters, some are teachers [who] Use our app in the summer to make extra money while others are students who work afternoons and weekends. It’s the perfect way for them to earn extra money.”

He said, “Our average salesperson makes about $55 an hour mowing lawns on our system. They set their own hours and choose the clients they want to work for. It’s the perfect side job.”

If you don’t want to have to drive from job to job as well, offering remote professional services is another option. The key to reaching six figures quickly is using your professional skills and expertise to provide a service that your clients are willing to pay you handsomely for, but that doesn’t take up much of your time.

“My wife and I have full-time jobs, but we run a remote law firm on the side,” says Shawn Bryer of The Bee Act.

“Our practice area is divorce and estate planning. Most divorces require attorneys to appear in court for contested issues. We focus exclusively on uncontested divorces. This allows us to resolve issues between spouses remotely without the involvement of an attorney. [to] court. Rather than going the traditional law firm route, we have set up our law firm in a way that suits our lifestyle.”

Bryer said they average about nine hours a week at the law firm. “We also average 15 uncontested divorces per year. At $7,500 per uncontested divorce, divorces bring us approximately $112,500 in revenue per year. That doesn’t include the estate planning we also do for clients.”

Making six figures blogging won’t happen overnight, but with a solid, proven plan and dedication, it is possible to build that amount of income over time. Many former bloggers have switched to the much easier to monetize platform, Substack, which allows paid subscribers and doesn’t rely on advertising dollars to generate revenue.

And while there are success stories of people making six figures a year from a single blog or Substack, you’re more likely to achieve this goal if you can get multiple, content-rich blogs up and running, like the next successful blogger.

Jeff Campbell from Middle class dad is a blogger who stated that he earns approximately $300,000 annually. Campbell quit his job a few years ago, but before that he said blogging was a side hustle.

“The articles on the sites are typically between 1,000 and 2,000 words and are intended to simply answer the questions searchers type into Google,” Campbell said. “I make money through a combination of display advertising and recommending products that I get a commission on (often, but not exclusively, through Amazon).”

Another side hustle is affiliate marketing, where you earn a commission for promoting a company or advertiser’s product or service. To become a successful affiliate marketer, you need to choose at least one platform, such as blogging or social media, and build an audience willing to buy what you review or recommend.

Affiliate marketing can potentially lead to six figures in revenue if you are strategic and dedicated. But it’s a side hustle that takes a lot of dedication to pay off.

Most people who make this work regularly post content to a social media platform where they gather enough followers who click on the advertiser’s embedded links, giving the marketer the revenue they covet. If you have that kind of bandwidth and creativity, and an eye for the types of products your audience will buy, this could be a perfect addition to your content creation.

Becoming a third-party seller on Amazon can be another great way to make six figures (or more) on the side.

“When I saw the potential of Amazon, I decided it could be a good side income,” says Ian Sells, founder and CEO of RebateKey. “At the time, I was only spending about 10 to 12 hours a week on Amazon. It wasn’t until I crossed the million dollar mark in sales that I decided it could rival my full-time career. That’s when I decided to make the switch.”

But don’t jump in without educating yourself first. “Getting guidance from someone who is familiar with the field or industry you’re interested in can help you get off to a good start and avoid making mistakes,” Sells said. “There are many online communities for these purposes.”

In short, the first thing you need to do is research which wholesale products you can buy that will sell well on Amazon and provide a return of at least 30%. Then you need to find someone who can lend you the seed money to buy those products in bulk, secure a storage space, and purchase shipping materials. If you want to scale your business, you need to reinvest your profits for at least the first year.

Whether any of these side hustles work for you or you use your creativity to brainstorm others, these are good places to bring in extra money.
