Lorenzo Musetti announced on social media on Sunday that he will not participate in the IEB+ Argentina Open in Buenos Aires or the Rio Open presented by Claro.
“Following the results of my medical examinations and tests, my team and I have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the upcoming tournaments in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro,” Musetti wrote on Instagram. “My focus now is on my rehabilitation so that I can return to the court. I would like to thank everyone for their support and I hope to see you again soon.”
The Italian star enjoyed a deep run at the Australian Open, where he led 10-time champion Novak Djokovic two sets to nil in the quarter-finals. However, he suffered an injury to his right thigh and retired halfway through the third set.
Going into the fortnight, the number 5 player in the PIF ATP Rankings had never advanced beyond the third round of the Australian Open. But after reaching the final in Hong Kong and the last eight in Melbourne, he owns a 7-2 record for the season according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.
The IEB+ Argentina Open is an ATP 250 event starting on February 9, and the Rio Open presented by Claro is an ATP 500 tournament starting on February 16.
