Yashasvi Jaiswal, on the other hand, is simply dismissed due to an argument with the Indian captain. Batsman leaves the ground shaking his head in despair after missing a double century.

As the second Test between India and West Indies began at the Arun Jaitley Stadium yesterday, Yashasvi Jaiswal turned Day 1 into a nightmare for the West Indian batters. He joined forces alongside Sai Sudharsan as the duo posted a mammoth partnership of 197 runs for the second wicket.

Day 2 of the second Test started on a more positive note with captain Shubman Gill taking the field alongside captain Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-hander ended day 1 strongly, after scoring 173*, with no aerial risks and just pure class.

In the second ball of the 92nd over, Jaiswal, like the previous ball, hit a fuller ball towards the midfielder, and Tegnarine Chaderpaul, who was a few steps forward this time, threw the ball to the wicketkeeper’s end, and Jaiswal, who had stepped out, had no chance to return to his crease with no response from skipper Shubman Gill.

Both the captain and Jaiswal are stunned when the batsman hits his forehead in frustration.

Too bad for Jaiswal to have missed out on his well-deserved hundred; however, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise for young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy. Reddy, who did not get a look with the bat in the previous match in Ahmedabad, has been promoted higher as the stage was set for a huge total after Jaiswal’s epic ton.

The lower-order right-handed batsman who contributed immensely to India’s limited success in Australia was not seen in the best of form during the tour of England. Though he delivered crucial blows at times, having spent a lot of time at the crease, his bat didn’t seem to do the talking as before.

With Hardik Pandya ruled out of the Australia tour and Nitish Kumar Reddy being pitched as India’s emerging all-rounder, he needs to fix his batting antics as his bowling is not often a notable feature for his squad. Reddy seizes this opportunity with some big hits in Arun Jaitley.

Should Jaiswal be rewarded with an ODI spot after his Test heroics?

Having dominated almost every country he played a Test against and with over 3000 Test runs and 7 Test hundreds within the age of 23, Yashasvi Jaiswal was regarded by the Indian cricket fans as India’s true all-format star.

However, the spark that fans have seen in the young Mumbaikar should also be enough to light up the eyes of both the selectors and the team management. Jaiswal has been dropped from the Champions Trophy squad despite the initial selection and is ultimately picked for a full ODI series against Australia.

However, with the return of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill named as ODI skipper, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s appearance in the Indian XI would be a very tough job. However, after his recent antics, the Gautam Gambhir-led management should consider giving him a chance to prove his merits as a white-ball opener.
