Suspects include current and former government officials and private individuals. A criminal case has been registered against 11 persons in connection with the scam and five government officials have been arrested.
Based on public complaints, Lokayukta judge B. Veerappa took suo motu cognizance and filed a complaint on January 12. On the directions of the police, the Lokayukta police conducted searches at seven locations in Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar and Maddur between January 13 and 14, starting at 4.30 am.
Accusations
The suspects are alleged to have fabricated and tampered with official land records, including forged grant orders, false notifications and government approvals, manipulated RTCs and research documents. The documents were allegedly used to illegally allocate government gomala and revenue lands by showing new beneficiaries instead of the original owners, thereby facilitating illicit profits.
To attack
During searches of homes, offices and vehicles, Lokayukta police seized original and fake land records, forged saguvali chits, government notices and grant files and several fabricated approvals related to land grants.
A search of the house and car of village assistant Yogesh is said to have led to the recovery of the original income details and several forged documents related to Nagamangala taluk.
Investigation revealed that survey numbers 123, 124, 51, 65, 35, among others, were manipulated in villages like Devalapura, Bellur, Chikkadalakoppalu, Doddagadalakoppalu, Malleshandra, Dondemadahalli, Kachenahalli, Hanchipura and Guddebhovanahalli.
About 320 hectares of government land, worth around ₹200 crore, was allegedly illegally granted using forged documents. In several cases, individuals were allocated land well above the permitted limit of 4 acres (38 guntas) per family.
