The play that led to the 6-foot-2 Jet being suspended occurred midway through the second period of the Jets’ 4-2 loss to the Senators. Stanley and Tkachuk were pushing and shoving in front of the Senators bench when Stanley dropped his gloves and punched the Senators captain in the face, causing him to fall to the ice.

Stanley, who has a career-high seven goals and 13 points this season, was given a double minor for running the play too roughly. This is the first time the Kitchener, Ont. native is suspended.

Stanley, 27, was drafted 18th overall in the first round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. He scored 12 goals and 37 assists for 49 points in 242 career games, along with a whopping 287 penalty minutes.

In 17 career postseason games, Stanley has added two goals and two assists for four points, along with 52 penalty minutes.

The Jets will be without Stanley for their five-game homestand opener on Tuesday when they face off Vegas Golden Knights at Canada Life Centre, looking to snap their nine-game losing skid. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM CST on TSN3.
