The Utah Mammoth have locked up a franchise centerpiece, announced on Wednesday that center Logan Cooley has signed an eight-year, $80 million contract extension with an AAV of $10 million. According to Pierre LeBrun, “The contract includes no signing bonus money. It is heavily upfront, but full salary. It is the third-highest entry-level contract in NHL history.”

In early October, it was reported that he had turned down an eight-year contract for $9.6 million per season.
One of the NHL’s bright young teams has made a strong commitment to one of the league’s bright young players. “Logan is elite in every sense of the word,” said Utah Mammoth Governor Ryan Smith. “He is one of the most exciting young players in the league, and the fact that he has chosen to put down roots here in Utah speaks volumes about what we are building.”
Cooley, 21, is off to a strong start in the 2025-26 season with eight goals and 12 points in 11 games, leading Utah in goals and among the NHL’s top scorers. He was named the league’s Second Star of the Week on October 27 after scoring the first natural hat trick in franchise history.
“I am pleased to sign an eight-year extension with the Mammoth,” said Cooley. “The atmosphere at the Delta Center is unreal and Ryan and Ashley Smith have given us all the tools to succeed. This is a great day for me and my family.”
General manager Bill Armstrong added that the signing of Cooley “strengthens the foundation of our young core.”
A 2022 third-round pick by Arizona, Cooley has 121 points in 168 career games and continues to emerge as one of the NHL’s brightest young stars.
